Day 5: Celebrating National Health Center Week 2026
August 2- 8, 2026 is National Health Center Week! Throughout this week, we’ll showcase stories from a nearly 175-year history of community health services. These stories show how our past informs our present, and celebrate how we’ve evolved to meet everyone’s needs.
Day 5: Where we are now
As the Multnomah County Health Department moved away from the "poor farm" and institutional hospital models, it developed its own network of community-facing clinics providing health services for adults, children and teens in neighborhood quadrants served by field teams. Today, the Multnomah County Community Health Center is the largest public FQHC in Oregon, serving over 60,000 patients annually through our diverse network of clinics including:
7 Primary Care Clinics providing integrated medical, dental, and pharmacy services.
9 Student Health Centers in high schools across five school districts (David Douglas, Parkrose, Centennial, Reynolds, and Portland Public), offering crucial primary and integrated behavioral health care to youth ages 5–18.
1 Dedicated Dental Clinic in downtown Portland.
1 Highly Specialized Clinic focused entirely on compassionate, comprehensive care for people living with HIV.
1 Mobile Clinic providing essential healthcare services to underserved communities across Multnomah County weekly, including preventive care, screenings, vaccinations and counseling.
Be it physically or emotionally, Community Health Center staff are the heart of our services. Day in and day out, when our neighbors and coworkers need it most, we are the ones providing critical support that makes our communities thrive.
